Technical SEO services fix the infrastructure that facilitates easy crawling with Google, which helps with ranking a website. That includes site architecture, crawl budget, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and everything else that happens before a search engine reads a single word of content. ROILift’s technical SEO starts with a free audit: three real findings before you speak to anyone, then fixes the problems that are actively suppressing rankings.
What's included
Crawl audit, indexability review, Core Web Vitals, structured data, site architecture, redirect mapping, log-file analysis, and ongoing monitoring Prioritized backlog · developer-ready specs for the top fixes · rendered issue examples · 12-month revenue projection tied to the backlog · one-hour walkthrough call with the auditor

What Technical SEO Actually Is

Most SEO discussions jump straight to content and links. Technical SEO is the layer underneath both of them and the one that makes everything else irrelevant if it’s broken. A page that Google can’t crawl is invisible. A page with a slow Largest Contentful Paint loses rankings to a worse page that loads faster. A canonical pointing the wrong way splits authority between two URLs instead of concentrating it on one.
The frustrating part is that none of these failures look like SEO failures from the outside. Traffic just stays flat, or drops after a site update, or new pages never climb past position 30. The cause is almost always infrastructure, and a technical audit is the thing that names it.

What's Included

Every engagement at ROILift covers a defined set of deliverables with technical SEO. The scope below is what’s
included in a full retainer; a standalone technical audit delivers items as a written report you keep.

Crawl audit and crawl budget analysis

A full Screaming Frog or equivalent crawl mapped against Google's own crawl data (via Search Console and log files when available). We find orphaned pages, blocked resources, crawl traps, soft 404s, and anything consuming crawl budget on URLs that shouldn't. Output: a prioritized fix list sorted by impact, not by volume of issues.

Indexability review

Every page that should be indexed, confirmed as indexed. Every page that shouldn't thin content, duplicates, parameter variants, or staging leaks confirmed as excluded. Noindex, canonical, and robots.txt decisions reviewed and corrected where needed. Output: a canonical map and an indexability decision matrix for all key URL groups.

Core Web Vitals and page speed

LCP, INP (now the stability metric; FID is retired), and CLS measured with PageSpeed Insights and CrUX field data, not just lab scores. We identify the specific assets, render-blocking resources, or layout shifts causing failures and hand the fixes to development with implementation specs, not just a score. Output: per-template fix spec for development, prioritized by which pages receive the most traffic.

Structured data and schema

Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, and any vertical-specific schema (MedicalBusiness, LegalService, etc.) reviewed and implemented. Invalid markup flagged and corrected. AggregateRating added once real review data is available. Output: schema coverage report and JSON-LD code ready for implementation.

Site architecture and internal linking

How pages are connected to each other decides how authority flows and how Google understands topic relationships. We audit orphaned pages, flat vs. deep architecture issues, anchor text patterns, and whether the pages that should be strong are actually receiving internal links. Output: internal linking plan with priority URLs and suggested anchor text.

Mapping and link equity

Redirect chains, loops, and 404s identified and resolved. Particularly important before or after a migration. Every redirect chain beyond one hop is a leak in link equity. Output: clean redirect map, and for migrations, a pre-launch checklist signed off before any change is made.

Ongoing monitoring

Technical SEO is not a one-time fix. New pages get published, templates change, deploys introduce regressions. Monthly crawl comparisons catch new issues before they compound. Output: monthly technical health delta report included in the standard SEO reporting.

The Seven Problems Technical SEO Fixes

These are the technical failures that produce visible ranking problems. Most sites carry at least two; large or frequently-updated sites often carry all seven.

Problem What it looks like What fixes it
Pages not indexed
New content never appears in Google Search Console; ‘site:domain.com’ shows far fewer pages than exist

Crawl audit, indexability review, robots/canonical corrections

Slow LCP
Core Web Vitals report shows ‘Poor’ or ‘Needs Improvement’; competitors with thinner content outrank you

Image optimization, server response time, render-blocking resource removal, CDN

Crawl budget waste
Google crawls parameter URLs, session IDs, or duplicate pages instead of your money pages

Robots.txt, canonical tags, URL parameter handling in Search Console

Duplicate content
Two or more URLs serving the same or very similar content, splitting authority between them

Canonical implementation, 301 redirects, de-indexing of duplicates

Broken redirect chains
301s pointing to 301s every hop lose a fraction of link equity

Flatten chains to single hops; 404s for pages with no valid destination

Missing or broken structured data
Rich result eligibility lost; AI engines have no machine-readable description of the business

Schema audit and JSON-LD implementation across all key templates

Poor site architecture
Deep or disorganized hierarchy means Google deprioritizes strong pages; orphaned pages get no authority

Information architecture review, internal linking plan, hub-and-spoke restructure where needed

HONEST COMPARISON

Technical SEO vs On-Page SEO vs Off-Page SEO

Who This Isn't For

Your technical foundation is already clean, and the constraint is content or links. The free audit tells you which if it comes back technical-healthy.

You’re on a platform with locked infrastructure; some hosted ecommerce platforms don’t allow you to change robots.txt, canonicals, or server response headers. If the platform won’t let the fixes land, paying for the audit is the right move but the retainer isn’t.

You want us to directly edit your codebase without your development team involved. We produce the fix spec; your team (or a developer you hire) implements it. We can manage the implementation process but don’t have direct server access unless that’s separately arranged.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What is technical SEO and why does it matter?
Technical SEO is the work that makes a website crawlable, indexable, fast, and structurally sound enough for Google to rank it. It covers everything below the content layer: how pages are discovered and crawled, whether they’re being indexed or excluded, how fast they load (Core Web Vitals), how site architecture shapes authority flow, and whether structured data is helping search engines understand what the site is about. It matters because none of the on-page or off-page work produces results if the infrastructure is broken. You can write excellent content and earn strong links and still rank nowhere if Google can’t crawl or index the pages reliably.

A full technical SEO audit covers seven areas: crawl and crawl budget analysis (finding what Google can and can’t reach), indexability review (confirming what’s indexed should be and what isn’t shouldn’t be), Core Web Vitals assessment with field data not just lab scores, structured data coverage and validity, site architecture and internal linking, redirect chain analysis, and an ongoing monitoring baseline. The free audit at /free-seo-audit/ gives you three real findings immediately and no email required to see them. The paid SEO Audit Services engagement at /seo-audit-services/ is a deeper written report you keep whether or not you continue with a retainer.

‘Regular SEO’ is usually shorthand for on-page work: titles, headings, content, and sometimes link building. Technical SEO is the infrastructure layer underneath those: it decides whether the on-page work Google encounters is the right page, at the right URL, loading fast enough to be competitive, with a canonical pointing to itself and not a duplicate. The practical way to think about it: on-page SEO works on what a reader sees; technical SEO works on what Google’s crawler and renderer see. Both matter; neither substitutes for the other. If you’re unsure which is the constraint on your site, the free audit at /free-seo-audit/ tells you.

It depends on what’s broken and how quickly fixes go live. Indexing improvements from correcting robots.txt, canonical, or noindex issues can show in Search Console within days to weeks once Google recrawls. Core Web Vitals improvements in field data typically take four to six weeks after implementation for the CrUX dataset to update. Rankings movement after technical fixes takes place; the infrastructure change triggers Google to recrawl and reassess pages, which is faster than content-driven ranking changes but not instant. We validate every fix against Search Console data and give you a before/after indexing and coverage report.

Generally yes, in that order but not always. The rule is: fix whatever is actively blocking the other work. If pages aren’t being indexed, on-page improvements on those pages do nothing until the indexing problem is solved. If Core Web Vitals are failing badly enough that Google is demoting the entire domain, link building won’t close the gap. But if technical health is already solid all key pages indexed, Core Web Vitals passing, no redirect chains there’s no reason to spend another quarter on technical work when on-page or link building would move rankings faster. The audit identifies which pillar is the constraint so the budget goes to the right place.

For most platforms, yes! WordPress, custom builds, Webflow, Shopify, Squarespace, and major ecommerce platforms are all places where we can audit and spec fixes. Some hosted platforms have locked infrastructure that doesn’t allow direct control over robots.txt, canonical tags, or server response headers. In those cases, we audit what’s auditable and flag what’s platform-constrained so you know exactly what can and can’t be fixed without a platform migration. We don’t advocate for a platform change unless the technical limitations are actively costing rankings; the audit makes that assessment explicitly.
