The Project Charter: What Each Side Owns

What ROILift owns What the client owns
Scope written into the SOW before day 1 fixed, priced, and signed by both sides.
Timely feedback within the review windows (typically 5 business days per round) — delays cascade into the timeline.
Design revisions inside the agreed round count (typically 2-3 rounds per major deliverable).
Content copy, images, product data, brand assets supplied by the dates agreed in the SOW
Technical build to spec, on the platform agreed, hitting the performance targets published below.
Access to third-party tools we need to integrate (analytics, ESP, CRM, payment gateway) with admin permissions.
QA across browsers, devices, accessibility, and performance before launch no ‘ship and hope.’
Business decisions ROILift can’t make for you: brand voice sign-off, legal and compliance review, launch-date approval.
Handover of every asset on launch day — domain admin, hosting root, code repo, design files, documentation, training.
Ongoing maintenance approach chosen at launch — DIY, in-house team, or ROILift retainer via website maintenace
Change-order transparency extras priced against a published hourly rate, approved in writing, added to the timeline.
The final call on whether a change is worth its cost and timeline impact we recommend you decide.

Web design services plan, design, develop, and launch a website that ranks, converts, and performs technical build plus visual design plus content architecture, priced against a signed scope. ROILift’s web design services combine website design, web development services, and 90-day post-launch support in fixed 8-14 week projects with published Core Web Vitals and accessibility targets, and full asset ownership handed to the client on launch day.

What Web Design and Development Actually Covers

A working website is the intersection of five disciplines that most agencies collapse into one and lose the depth of each in the process. Real web design services cover information architecture (how content is organized), visual design (how it looks), technical development (how it’s built), performance and accessibility (how it works for every user), and search-readiness (how it’s indexed and ranked). Good website design starts from those five pillars, not from a template picked in isolation. If any one is broken, the site under-earns for years.

The critical framing that separates real web projects from template drop-ins: the site is not a design deliverable, it’s a business asset. Web development services worth paying for produce a site that ranks well from day one, loads fast on the buyer’s phone, converts at the industry-average rate or better, and can be maintained without the original agency in the picture. Any of those broken, and the site is a liability the marketing team will spend years working around.

Where WD sits versus adjacent services: technical SEO can improve an existing site’s crawlability and Core Web Vitals; landing page optimization can lift conversion on specific pages. Both work best on sites that were built with those disciplines in mind from the start. Web design services are the ground floor; SEO and CRO are the retrofits.

The Performance and Accessibility Bar

Metric Ship target Why it matters
LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)
< 2.5s on mobile 3G/4G

Google’s Core Web Vitals threshold; below this, rankings and conversions both suffer

INP (Interaction to Next Paint)
< 200ms

Replaced FID in 2024; measures actual interactivity: clicks, taps, key presses

CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift)
< 0.1

Layout jumps are the #1 cause of accidental clicks and form errors; visual stability matters

Lighthouse Performance
> 90 on mobile at launch

Composite score; below 90 usually means one of the CWV metrics is failing

Lighthouse Accessibility
> 95

Below 95 means real accessibility bugs: keyboard nav broken, contrast failing, ARIA missing

Lighthouse SEO
> 95

Technical foundation for organic search: meta tags, structured data, mobile-friendliness

WCAG compliance
AA (AAA where scope allows)

Legal exposure risk; accessibility lawsuits doubled 2022-2024; AA is the practical baseline

What You Own on Launch Day

ROILift’s handover protocol is the opposite: on launch day, everything that runs your site is under your name and in your access.

Domain

Remains in your registrar under your account. We help configure DNS; we never hold the registrar login.

Hosting

Deployed to your account with your admin credentials, on the host you chose (or one we recommended, and you approved). Root access, billing under your name.

Code Repository

Full source code in your GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket account. Complete commit history. ROILift retains access only if the maintenance retainer continues.

Design Files

Figma files with edit rights transferred to your account. Design system component library, brand guide, and reusable assets.

Documentation

README on the code, editorial documentation for content teams, admin guides for the CMS, video training recordings.

Third-Party Integrations

Every account you’ll need (analytics, tag manager, CDN, email, payment) with admin permissions in your name. ROILift added as a collaborator only if you want us to keep working on the site.

How We Price Scope Changes: Published Rules, Not Hourly Surprises

In-scope adjustments (small tweaks within an existing deliverable, revisions inside the agreed round count, corrections to something that was our error): no charge. These are what the project fee covers.

Where two channels claim the same purchase or lead, the overlap is documented, not hidden. Meta plus Klaviyo will both claim the same DTC purchase; the report shows the overlap.

Where two channels claim the same purchase or lead, the overlap is documented, not hidden. Meta plus Klaviyo will both claim the same DTC purchase; the report shows the overlap.

We build or use existing MMM to estimate incremental contribution per channel, the number that survives cross-channel skepticism.

Monthly narrative report showing three numbers per channel platform-reported, cleaned, and estimated incremental plus one top-line total that reconciles across channels rather than adding platform numbers up.

Frequently
Asked Questions

What are web design services, and what's actually included?

Web design services at ROILift are fixed-scope, fixed-price projects covering discovery, information architecture, visual design, development, QA, launch, and a 90-day post-launch protocol.

From kickoff to launch for most projects. Marketing sites usually 8-10 weeks. Ecommerce builds and complex migrations: 10-14. Faster is possible for template-based projects, quoted honestly on the strategy call. Slower is the truth for custom builds or projects with unusual data migration.

Depends on your revenue model. WordPress for content-heavy marketing sites and service businesses. Shopify for DTC ecommerce. Webflow when in-house teams want visual control. Next.js or headless when performance and scale are the constraint. See the Build Stack section above for the tradeoffs, or bring the question to the strategy call and we’ll recommend against your specific model. Platform-fit is the single decision that separates web design services that pay back from those that need rebuilding in year two.

Some clients bring a copywriter they already trust; others bring us both. The charter names who owns content on day one, so nothing stalls the timeline waiting on pages

The scope-change protocol above covers it. Short version: small tweaks and in-round revisions are no charge (that’s what the project fee covers). New pages, new features, or extra revision rounds are quoted as a change order at a published hourly rate, approved in writing before work starts. The timeline impact is noted with the cost. Nothing gets added quietly.

Yes, completely. See the handover protocol above. Domain in your registrar, hosting in your account, code in your repository, design files in your Figma, documentation in your drive. If you leave ROILift the day after launch, nothing switches off. This is deliberate and non-negotiable — hostage sites are how the industry earns a bad reputation.

That is optional. The 90-day post-launch protocol above is included in every project. Beyond that, monthly maintenance retainers are available. Security patches, plugin updates, performance monitoring, content updates, minor design tweaks. Priced on the page. Not required; some clients handle maintenance in-house or with a different vendor. We tell you honestly which is right for your team.

Get Started

Book a strategy call — 45 minutes to talk through scope, platform, and timeline. Come with your current site (or a rough spec), and we’ll come back with a scoped project range before you leave the call. If you’d rather see how the current site is performing first, the free site audit runs Core Web Vitals, accessibility, and SEO checks and delivers three priority findings by email.

01

Book a strategy call, real project scoping, no discovery deck.

02

Get a scoped proposal with timeline, platform recommendation, and fixed price.

03

Kick off week 1 with signed SOW; launch in 8-14 weeks.
