White Hat Link Building That Earns Links Google Won't Undo

ROILift’s white hat link building earns placements through the outreach methods Google explicitly endorses: recovering broken links, reclaiming unlinked brand mentions, earning resource-page inclusions, and building on supplier and partner relationships. Every placement is a link someone gave you because your content deserved it, not because money changed hands. White hat link building that survives algorithm updates because there is nothing to detect.

White hat link building earns backlinks through methods Google explicitly recommends: broken-link recovery, unlinked-mention reclamation, resource-page outreach, and supplier or partner linking. ROILift runs these four tactics with every placement disclosed by URL, anchor, DR, real traffic, and reason. Safe link building that survives updates because there is nothing manipulative to find.

What it is

Link building through broken-link recovery, unlinked-mention reclamation, resource-page outreach, and supplier/partner linking. The lowest-risk methodology in the link building family

Businesses that already have content worth linking to and a brand already being mentioned online. White hat outreach works when credibility already exists; it doesn’t create credibility from nothing

Broken-link recovery (finding 404’d competitor links and offering your better resource), unlinked-mention reclamation (turning existing brand mentions into links), resource-page inclusion (getting listed on curated pages), supplier/partner linking (earning links from businesses you already work with)

Live URL, anchor text, target page, publication’s real traffic and DR, topic, angle, and the reason each placement was worth pursuing

First placements typically month 1. Volume depends on how many opportunities exist for your brand (unlinked mentions, broken competitor links, relevant resource pages)

What We Won't Do and Why

Most buyers looking for safe link building arrive with penalty fear from a previous vendor. The safety position on the hub for link building covers the four rules across all methodologies. For this methodology specifically, the rules are tighter because the whole methodology is defined by what it refuses to do.

No payment to publishers for placement. White hat means the link was earned because your content deserved the reference, not because money changed hands. If a publisher requires payment, the placement moves to a different methodology (guest posting or digital PR, both scoped on their own pages) with proper disclosure.

No link exchanges. ‘You link to me, I link to you’ is detectable and penalized. Every placement is one-directional: the publisher links to your resource because it genuinely improves their content.

No outreach to low-quality or PBN-adjacent sites. The five-check vetting process below applies to every target. If the site fails any check, we skip it regardless of its DR.

No hidden work. Every placement is disclosed with URL, anchor, target page, DR, real traffic, and the reason it was pursued. You can audit every link in the monthly report.

What White Hat Link Building Actually Covers

This methodology is the subset of link building that earns links without payment, exchange, or manipulation. It’s the lowest-risk methodology in the family, the one Google’s own documentation recommends, and the one most agencies skip because it’s slower and harder to scale than buying placements.

Four tactics make up the methodology at ROILift. Each works differently, each has different prerequisites, and each earns a different kind of placement.

Broken-link recovery

A competitor's resource that publications used to link to has 404'd, moved, or degraded. We build or identify a better resource on your site, contact the publisher, and offer the swap. The publisher gets a working link, you get the placement, nobody pays anybody. This tactic works best when competitors have older sites with link rot, and when you have genuinely useful content to offer as the replacement.

Unlinked-mention reclamation

Your brand is already mentioned in articles, forum threads, podcast show notes, or social posts without a link. We find those mentions, contact the author or publisher, and ask for the link. Conversion rates on these asks are high (typically 15-40%) because the author already endorsed your brand; they just didn't link. Requires that your brand actually has mentions to reclaim, which is why this tactic works for established businesses and not for startups.

Resource-page outreach

Industry resource pages, curated tool lists, vendor directories, and guide compilations that list the useful resources in a category. If your content belongs there because it's genuinely useful, we submit it with a note on what it covers and why it fits. No payment, no exchange. The bar: your resource has to be as good as or better than what's already listed, because the curator has no reason to add something mediocre.

Supplier and partner linking

Businesses you already work with (suppliers, partners, clients, sponsors, associations) often have pages that could link to you but don't. A manufacturer's 'where to buy' page, a partner's 'our partners' page, a trade association's member directory. We identify these opportunities and send the request. The link is earned through an existing relationship, which makes it both natural and permanent.

How We Source and Vet Placements

The five-check vetting process from the /link-building/ hub applies to every target in this methodology. For white-hat outreach specifically, one additional filter runs on top: the placement must be earnable without payment. If the only path to the link is paying the publisher, the target moves to guest posting or digital PR scope.

Topical relevance:

The publication covers your industry and the specific article matches your target page's intent. Off-topic links from high-DR sites are worth less than relevant links from moderate-DR sites

Real organic traffic

DR is a proxy; real traffic is the signal. We check Ahrefs, Semrush, and the publication's own analytics where accessible. Sites with inflated DR and no real readers are skipped

Spam-signal audit

Outbound-link ratio, thin content, sponsored-content share, recent update impact. Publications that look one update away from deindexing are avoided

Footprint check

Hosting, ownership, template overlap. PBN-adjacent networks are skipped even when individual sites look clean

Earnable without payment

The link can be earned through content merit, a relationship, or a swap of genuinely useful resources. If payment is the only path, it's not white hat

What's Included

The retainer ships the same deliverables every month, published here so you can hold us to it.

Opportunity audit

Broken links pointing at competitors in your category, unlinked mentions of your brand across the web, resource pages and curated lists in your vertical, and supplier/partner pages that could link to you

Approved target list

The publications and pages we'll pursue, with the tactic for each (broken-link swap, mention reclamation, resource submission, partner ask), approved by you before outreach starts

Monthly placement report

Every live link disclosed with URL, anchor, target page on your site, DR, real traffic, topic, and the reason each placement was worth pursuing

Deep linking to money pages

Anchor variation calibrated to what looks natural for your vertical per the anchor strategy section below

Toxic-link audit

Documented decisions on outreach removal (preferred) or disavow (rare)

Ownership of every placement

Links point at your domain permanently, relationships are logged, and if you leave, nothing switches off

Industries

Industries We Serve

The methodology works differently by vertical because the opportunities
differ: a SaaS company has unlinked mentions in tech press, a law firm has
broken links in legal guides, a dental practice has resource-page opportunities
in healthcare directories.

Where White-Hat Outreach Fails

This is the safest methodology in the link-building family, but it still fails when the foundation isn’t there. Every failed engagement we’ve audited broke in one of the same five ways.

What broke Why it costs you What fixes it
No content worth linking to
Broken-link recovery requires a better resource to offer. Unlinked mentions require a brand worth mentioning. Resource pages require a resource. If none of these exist, outreach has nothing to pitch

Content-first: build the linkable resource before starting outreach. We’ll brief what’s needed or coordinate with /content-marketing/ to produce it

Brand isn’t mentioned anywhere yet
Unlinked-mention reclamation requires mentions to exist. A startup with no press, no reviews, and no community presence has zero mentions to reclaim

Digital PR first (/link-building/digital-pr/) to generate the initial coverage; then safe link building reclaims the mentions that earned coverage generates

Outreach sent at scale without personalization
Publishers ignore mass-emailed templates. Response rates drop below 2%, and the outreach looks spammy, damaging the brand’s reputation with publishers

Personalized outreach per target: specific broken link named, specific mention cited, specific resource-page gap identified. Lower volume, higher conversion

Every link pointed at the homepage
Authority never reaches the money pages that actually need it. The homepage ranks for the brand name it already ranked for

Deep-linking plan: outreach targets placements to specific money pages with anchor variation calibrated per the strategy section below

Toxic links from a previous vendor left in the profile
New white hat placements earn authority while old toxic links drain it. Net progress is slower than it should be because the profile is still weighted down

Toxic-link audit before new placements start. Outreach removal at source (preferred) for the worst offenders; disavow only for genuinely dangerous patterns

Frequently
Asked Questions

What is white hat link building, and how is it different from regular link building?

White hat link building earns links through methods Google explicitly endorses: broken-link recovery, unlinked-mention reclamation, resource-page outreach, and supplier/partner linking. No payment changes hands for the link itself. ‘Regular’ link building often includes paid placements, guest posting with fees, and marketplace purchases, all of which carry varying levels of risk. White hat carries near zero risk because there is no manipulation to detect.

Effective but slower per placement than paid methods. Volume depends on how many opportunities exist for your brand: broken competitor links in your space, unlinked mentions, relevant resource pages, and partner pages. A brand with no content and no mentions sees near zero opportunities, which is why content comes first.

Depends on opportunity volume, not effort. A well-known SaaS with hundreds of unlinked mentions can yield 15+ per month in the first quarter. A local service business with limited press may yield 3-5. We scope expected volume on the strategy call based on an opportunity audit, not on a promised number. Promising a specific link count before auditing the opportunity set is a sign of a vendor that will pad with low-quality placements to hit the number.

No. Every placement is earned through content merit or an existing relationship. There is no payment, no exchange, no network, and no manipulation to detect. The methodology is what Google’s own documentation recommends. Zero manual actions across all ROILift white hat campaigns.

Then the mention-reclamation tactic won’t yield volume, and you’ll rely more heavily on broken-link recovery, resource-page outreach, and partner linking. To generate mentions that can later be reclaimed, earn initial coverage; then white hat outreach reclaims the unlinked mentions that coverage generates. Both can run in parallel.

Yes, but carefully. The toxic-link audit runs before new placements start. Most low-quality links Google already ignores, and disavowing them does more harm than good. Our approach: audit the profile, group links by risk pattern, outreach removal at source for the worst offenders (preferred), disavow only for genuinely dangerous patterns, and monitor the rest. Every cluster gets a documented decision.

Niche edits update existing articles with new references. White hat outreach earns links through recovery, reclamation, and resource submission without payment. Most engagements combine 2-3 methodologies depending on what the opportunity audit surfaces.

Yes, and most clients do. The methodology runs as the safe foundation alongside guest posting, digital PR, or niche edits depending on the opportunity set. The monthly report covers all methodologies together so you can see which is producing which placements and at what cost per link.

I own a small Kitchen and bath remodeling company in Arizona. I had ROILIFT build me a new website along with fixing major problems with reach and advertising. I’ve had such a wonderful experience working with Ellie Williams at ROILift Technologies. From the beginning, she has been kind, patient, responsive, and genuinely interested in understanding my business and what I’m trying to accomplish. As a small business owner, my business is very personal to me, and Ellie has always made me feel like my ideas, concerns, and opinions matter. She listens when I explain what I want, is open to my feedback, and never makes me feel like I’m being difficult when I ask questions or want something changed. What I appreciate most is that working with Ellie feels like a collaboration. She doesn’t just check things off a list she takes the time to understand the direction I want for Milo’s Mealworms and helps me figure out how to bring my ideas to life. It’s rare to find someone who is both professional and genuinely caring about the work they’re doing. I’m very grateful to have Ellie working with me and would absolutely recommend her and ROILift Technologies.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had been thinking about redesigning my website when I recevied a solicitation email from ROILift talking about SEO optimization and website generation. I replied to Neil who quickly set me up with Van, Priya and the rest of the team under George. After some development, many changes and many calls explaining exactly what I needed, I am happy to say that my website is now as I imagined. It took a little longer than I orignally thought, but we finally got the infrastructure just right for my needs. George definitely helped push it along when I got frustrated, but him and the whole team are very patient and dedicated to meeting and exceeding your needs and expectations. I am going to go ahead with their SEO package now, knowing that they are honest and hard working people.

New to SEO but Elsa Salvatore and her team have educated me and made the transition very easy. Handyman LLC is not getting triple the hits in just three weeks of optimization. Roilift is reasonably priced, aggressive in there position and understanding of my business. Great to work with and I would recommend Elsa and her team highly.
